A landmark gift from University of North Dakota alumnus Bob Fransen has led to the establishment of a new real estate major and the renaming of a key academic department. The UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration has announced it is now home to the newly christened Fransen Department of Real Estate, Economics & Finance.
The transformative contribution from Fransen, a 1974 graduate and longtime real estate executive, is designed to address a critical need in the region's workforce. The funding directly enables the creation of an undergraduate major in real estate, a program intended to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge for successful careers in development, finance, investment, and property management.
This new major fills a recognized gap in the state's educational offerings and aims to cultivate homegrown talent for a vital industry. The renaming of the department permanently honors Fransen's legacy and his commitment to fostering the next generation of business leaders. College officials emphasize that the gift will enhance curriculum, support faculty, and provide unique hands-on learning opportunities for students, thereby strengthening North Dakota's economic future by preparing graduates to contribute immediately to the real estate sector and broader financial landscape.
