After a marathon stint on the market, former Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish has finally closed the sale on his suburban Evanston home. The transaction concludes a lengthy sales process that remarkably lasted longer than Darvish's entire tenure with the Cubs organization.
The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom property found a buyer last week, bringing an end to a three-and-a-half-year search. Darvish initially listed the elegant home shortly after being traded to the San Diego Padres in December 2020. His time with the Cubs, by contrast, spanned just three seasons from 2018 through the 2020 campaign.
The stately residence, featuring a gourmet kitchen, custom library, and a finished lower level, was originally priced at just under $2.5 million. Over the lengthy listing period, the asking price was adjusted multiple times, a common strategy to attract buyer interest in a shifting real estate landscape. The final sale price has not been publicly disclosed.
While Darvish’s arm quickly found a new home in San Diego, his Illinois property required considerably more patience. The sale finally allows the All-Star pitcher to fully sever his tangible ties to the Chicago area, marking the end of an unexpectedly prolonged off-field chapter.
