DFW startup steels houses for the future with digital tech

A startup based in Lake Dallas is bringing construction into the digital age by using advanced technology to build steel frames for houses and commercial buildings. The company, which focuses on sustainability, relies on digital twin modeling and 3D extrusion to create custom, environmentally friendly structural components.

Instead of traditional wood framing, which can be vulnerable to termites, rot, and fire, the firm uses galvanized steel. The process begins with a digital twin -- a precise virtual replica of the building. This model allows engineers to design every beam and connection point before any material is cut. The digital blueprint then feeds directly into a 3D extrusion machine that fabricates the steel pieces on site or in a controlled shop environment.

The result is a framing system that is lighter, stronger, and more precise than conventional methods. Because the steel is pre-engineered and cut to exact specifications, there is significantly less waste compared to stick-built construction. The company claims its process also reduces on-site labor time, which helps offset the higher material cost of steel.

Proponents argue that this approach is not just about efficiency. It also addresses long-term durability. Steel frames are non-combustible and resistant to the shifting and settling that can plague wood structures. For homeowners in tornado-prone or high-wind regions, the added structural integrity is a major selling point.

While steel framing is not new, the integration of digital twin technology and automated extrusion is. The startup believes this combination could make steel-framed homes more accessible to the average buyer, potentially changing how residential neighborhoods are built in the coming decade. The company is currently working on several pilot projects across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
