University Hospitals has made a significant real estate play in Beachwood, purchasing the former U.S. headquarters of Synthomer for $9.1 million. The deal, finalized this week, marks a major expansion for the Cleveland-based health system and triggers a relocation for the London-based specialty chemical manufacturer.
The property, located on Parkland Boulevard, is a 132,000-square-foot office building that Synthomer had occupied as its North American base. UH plans to convert the space into a hub for administrative and outpatient services, aiming to consolidate operations currently scattered across multiple leased sites. The move aligns with a broader trend of health systems snapping up suburban office parks to build out ambulatory care networks.
For Synthomer, the sale comes as part of a corporate restructuring. The company will vacate the building over the next several months, shifting its U.S. leadership team to smaller leased offices elsewhere in the region. Financial terms of the sale were disclosed in Cuyahoga County property records, showing UH paid cash for the asset.
Beachwood officials welcomed the purchase, noting it keeps a major corporate property active and brings additional medical services to the city. UH has not yet released a timeline for renovations or a full list of services slated for the new location. The health system currently operates several urgent care and specialty clinics in the area, and this acquisition is expected to deepen its footprint in the affluent eastern suburbs.
